Poetics with code

Marta Di Francesco is a London-based artist merging poetics with code, working across video, text, and installation.

The poetics in her practice refers to an existential and critical approach exploring the human condition in a machine-mediated reality.

She examines identity and its fragmentation, through video processing, digital bleed, temporal displacement, volumetric aesthetics, and generative glitch.
Through a meticulous process which is generative as much as hand-painted digitally frame by frame, she reclaims agency in temporality, slowness, and time consciousness as forms of resistance in an era of speed, acceleration and distraction.

Her work often draws from literary and poetic texts, as well as revisiting mythology and cultural histories. In these contexts, she explores liminality, as the physical and virtual world merge and fade into one another through moments of transition and displacement, creating new thresholds and temporalities.

Her work has been widely exhibited and screened internationally.  Screenings and exhibitions include THE WRONG New Digital Art Biennale (2025), IXX Festival Internacional de la Imagen, Manizales, Colombia (2022), THE WRONG New Digital Art Biennale (2022), Vidéoformes Clermont-Ferrand, France (2022), Synthetic Media Art Festival Taipei (2021), New Media Art Biennale Kyiv, Ukraine (2021), ADAF Athens Digital Arts Festival, Greece (2021), CADAF NYC #DigitalArtMonth (2020), THE WRONG New Digital Art Biennale (2020), ADAF Athens Digital Arts Festival, Greece (2020), MADATAC XI Biennial, Madrid (2020), MANA Contemporary Chicago, U.S. (2019), XVIII Festival Internacional de la Imagen, Manizales, Colombia (2019), THE WRONG New Digital Art Biennale (2018), FILE Festival Exhibition, SESI Gallery of Art, Sao Paulo, Brazil (2018), FIVA Festival, San Martín Cultural Centre, Buenos Aires, Argentina (2018), CODAME Art + Tech Festival, San Francisco, U.S. (2018), ADAF Athens Digital Arts Festival, Greece (2018), Back to the POSTFUTURE Exhibition curated by ADAF, Venice, Italy (2018), POOL Internationales TANZFilmFestival, Berlin, Germany (2017), VECTOR Festival Toronto, Canada (2017), The Third Culture Film Festival, Hong Kong, China (2017), ADAF Athens Digital Arts Festival, Greece (2017) and ADAF #PostFuture Journey Digital Art Exhibition at Athens International Airport, Greece (2017), RETUNE Festival, Berlin, Germany (2016), NEW AESTHETIC: Future Bodies programme at Film Festival, Cologne, Germany (2016) and KFFK Cologne, Germany (2016).
